Features of the Curriculum
Native English Teachers (NETs)
- We have three native-speaking English teachers. Our NETs enhance students' exposure to and experiences with learning the English language.
Reading Programme
- We introduce rich literature to our students through 'Shared Reading' and 'Guided Reading' lessons, co-taught by our English teachers and NETs.
- Books rich in moral education are chosen and included in the reading curriculum.
- Our online reading program provides easy access to reading materials, catering to each student's reading level and learning progress.
Writing Programme
- Our school-based writing practices include pre-writing and post-writing tasks designed to cater to individual differences. Pre-writing tasks teach students various approaches to tackling main writing assignments, while post-writing tasks emphasize improving class-based grammatical knowledge.
- Various Higher Order Thinking Skills are introduced to help students brainstorm for ideas.
- Outstanding work is shared and uploaded to recognize and celebrate students' achievements.
Speaking and Listening Programme
- Our school-based phonics program helps develop students' awareness and sensitivity to different letter sounds. Students learn how to tackle new words using various strategic skills, which helps them become more confident in using English.
- To integrate e-learning with self-directed learning, students record their speaking tasks through a media-sharing platform.
- Students play customized English games designed by our NETs during recesses. Our English Stars (Elite students in English) carry out these fun games to boost the use of English.
- Second-tier English enhancement programs such as English Drama and English Stars help build students' self-esteem and performance (both verbal and non-verbal). Students feel accomplished when they see their own productions in front of an audience.
- P.6 students receive extra classes to support, prepare for, and practice for secondary school interviews through mock interviews and individual presentations.
